When we speak, we shape the sounds. When we shape the sounds, our audiences feel expressions through our sound. That’s why some songs move us emotionally more than others. I think one of the most moving sounds to hear or experience is the collective sound from a choir. The collective voices of people singing together as one will always send a tingle down your spine.
I created this song to embody the feeling of togetherness. I need you to imagine you are in a hall full of people, wanting to achieve a ‘One Voice’ sound and you are accompanying the lead vocalist in this epic song. I need you to be attentive to the shapes you are making with your mouth, and follow the voices you hear on the backing track.
Get ready to learn about the spaces and places in your mouth. Open wide!
This session is useful for exploring your legato singing notes with different mouth shapes. Using different mouth shapes with long notes cause our cavities (mouth, nasal, and pharyngeal) to respond differently, see if you can write down how they feel while you are singing along in this session. (we will use the breathing skills as in Session 3 – Far Away. This session is also useful for learning to sing with expression. Have fun with it as you ‘find your own feeling’ with each vowel shape.
